Retrofitting a press system goes far beyond merely removing various defects that have turned up in years of intense use. A retrofit can increase the output or pressing force, ensure legally required work safety, or improve the degree of automation with the currently available technology (e.g. robot linking). Sometimes, all it takes is replacing the bearing for an eccentric shaft or sealing a hydraulic cylinder. We gladly share our comprehensive experience from the new machine business in all of these matters with our customers in the form of technical consulting for retrofitting as well.

Production processes, claims to high quality, and last but not least technology continue to develop… we develop with them! Together with our customers, we develop new and more efficient processes step by step. In close cooperation, we produce individual solutions and adjust control units, drives, hydraulics, and other functions to changing requirements together. Our know-how allows us to integrate presses into new production facilities, to retrofit older machines to meet newer accident prevention provisions, or to make production processes in complex press lanes more efficient.

Electrical engineering and control technology have become more and more important in press manufacture. They can not only give a clear productivity thrust in refurbishments and retrofits, but also continually monitor the plants and production parameters. Our department for planning, construction, and programming of control units will take care of complete electrical retrofits and overhauls for you, from development of the circuit diagram, to switch cabinet manufacturing, to programming of the controls. We cooperate closely with the customers in the development process, e.g. making the new control interface operable intuitively and without any great training effort. This creates an additional economic advantage for the customer.

Presses with a healthy mechanical basis can shine in a new light by retrofitting and conversion to modern automation technology. A well-planned retrofit can give even old plants amazingly high performance and previously unknown precision. The potentials that can be accessed by modern control and drive technology deserve special attention.
Depending on scope, retrofitting costs will remain at 20-60 percent of a new acquisition. They form the strongest argument in support of a retrofit: it is economically efficient.
Hydraulic systems need regular maintenance and care. We at Georg Maschinentechnik are there for you if you have to deal with function losses or increased performance demands. Our competences comprise error diagnosis and system analyses, professional installation, and commissioning. We design and manufacture components such as control blocks, drive units, or different cylinders, also based on your specifications.

WHAT YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR PRESS
The preservation and quality of the basic substance are decisive for assessment of a retrofitting or repair scope. We will determine the condition based on a detailed, tried-and-tested checklist that systematically and comprehensibly points out the strengths of a press as well as its weaknesses. This examination is the basis for a written diagnosis produced for our customers, along with suggestions for removing any issues found.

The proper function of presses includes reliable compliance with safety guidelines. Therefore, we perform safety reviews for our customers in accordance with the specific checklists of the employees’ liability insurance associations, as well as review based on our detailed press checklist. We will point out any deficits found. We can also subject your presses and plants to a risk assessment, develop safety concepts, and perform CE-conformity procedures. We equip older presses with modern safety technology as well, expanding your control units by new safety modules. In addition to installation of protective devices such as protective grids and fences, light curtains, and lifting gates, we also offer trainings on the subject of machine safety.
